In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has left deep marks on our daily lives and disrupted the ecosystem of products and services, the cancer treatment sector had to face unprecedented challenges. This upheaval served as a catalyst for unprecedented digital innovation. Faced with this reality, the European Cancer Organisation (ECO), a Brussels-based association, entrusted us with the Joomla development of a dedicated application, "Data Navigator". The latter is intended to measure the impact of the crisis on cancer patients, perfectly illustrating the role of Big Data and IT development in adapting to the global health context.
Data Classification
This application presents the data collected by ECO in the form of an interactive map with a dual classification: by impact category (detection, treatment, diagnosis, etc.) or by type of tumor (lung, breast, prostate, etc.) These two classifications are materialized by color layers so that the user can at any time know what type of data they are consulting.
Synthesized and Summarized Data
As is often the case with Big Data, the great difficulty is to synthesize this data in order to give a synthetic and readable interpretation. This is the whole point of this Joomla development! We have therefore ensured that, to display a summary of a country's data, you simply need to click on it. A popup with the main indicators then appears, along with a button to view the complete data for the country.

Complete Data
The complete data set consists of two tabs per category / per tumor corresponding to the two classification systems.
Within each tab, the data is presented in sliders for space saving and easy mobile navigation.
A filter by year allows you to know the data for one or more specific years.
Advanced Filter System
Once again, only our Joomla development could allow the creation of a multiple selection filter system to anticipate the volume of data. This system allows efficient and simple filtering. The mobile version has also been studied so that the visitor can filter with one hand!
Data Sources
Each data point is sourced, and this source is accessible by clicking on the small superscript number. You are then directed to the source of the selected data for the chosen country. For better visual comfort, the requested data is highlighted in blue.
Mobile version installable as a Progressive Web Application (PWA)
A standalone mobile version is also available for this application. Thanks to the PWA technique, the relevant part of the site is transformed into an application from the mobile browser (icon on the home screen, full screen application, no navigation bar, etc..)
